What are the symptoms of cancer?

What are some signs and symptoms of breast cancer?

  • Hi there, I am 25 years old. I have been having shooting and dull pains in my left breast under my nipple for several months now, perhaps as much as six months, along with insatiatable itching in that same spot. This was accompanied by small fibrous nodules that could feel under the skin. I made an appointment with my doctor who said he couldn't feel any large lumps but he gave me a requisition for an ultrasound anyways. I went in for the ultrasound yesterday and they also accompanied that with a mammogram. Although the mammogram saw nothing, they found a lump behind my breast above my left nipple I believe she said above the layer of muscle. Something that I could not have felt on my own and in a different spot than what was giving me grief on the first place. I am not sure of the size of it but it looked solid on the screen so it was not a cyst. The Dr. took a sample of it using a large needle and it is being sent to the lab for analysis but there is a possibility that they may be follow up action if the sample was not sufficient. Being 25 years old, I went into the doctors assuming that there was no issue but erring on the side of caution anyways so I didnt expect that they would find a lump in my breast. So here are my questions: If the sample taken with the needle is not sufficient what is the next step taken to get a sample? If the lump is found to be benign is it possible that in time it could become cancerous? Should I be getting regular mammograms/ultrasounds every 6 month or a year for the rest of my life to monitor it? If they, God forbid, did find cancer in my breast what is the next step? Are there any other physical symptoms I would be feeling if I did have cancer? My maternal grandmother is a breast cancer survivor and there are many occurances of other types of cancer on both my Mom & Dad's side of the family. Any advice would be very much appreciated as I am obviously a little nervous. Thanks, -Kelly

Following are more likely in breast ca.--- 1.A lump in the breast which is apparently the first sign of breast cancer. The lump in the breast is usually like a thick swelling followed by redness in that area. 2.Check the underarm area which is the most important when testing for breast cancer. If there is swelling under the arm pit like a lump formation it is advisable to see a doctor. 3.Other signs of breast cancer is the change of look on the nipple. If there is any unusual texture or formation on the nipple along with strange discharge like a clear color or with that of blood then it is best to go in for a test. 4.Watch out for other signs of breast cancer which is where the skin will be hot to touch, a rash on the entire breast or near the breast, itchiness or unbearable pain in the breast region or even swelling on the neck. These are some of the common signs of breast cancer. It is mandatory that every woman does this test to make sure she is free from this deadly disease

As they were able to take a sample using fine needle aspiration, this is most likely a fluid filled cyst. Were you told it was solid or is that your interpretation? If it was solid they would be more likely to do an ultrasound guided core biopsy. Either way, you won't know the next step until you get biopsy results. 80% of lumps investigated in this way turn out to be benign (NOT cancer) so the odds are in your favor. It is highly unlikely that a non-cancerous breast lump would become cancerous, the biggest problem is they can mask cancerous lumps. Make sure you take copies of any imaging done and the reports to any future imaging appointment so they can compare changes. When I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer 7 years ago, my only symptom was a lump.

actually it could be a breast cyst. Yes, with the sample he took it will be enough to know what it is.. In case its not enough, maybe a biopsy would be done. When your dr gets the results, he/she will tell you if you need a simple operation to get the lump away and how often you will have to get a mamogram. --->IF you feel your nipple changed of color, shape, seems like its looking down, you feel pain & its really sensitive or/and you notice some liquid coming out from it, it COULD be cancer.. Those are the 1st and basic symptoms.. Also if there is a change on ur breast color, that could be a sign also.. Other wise, it must be a cyst... Dont worry, with the sample you will know what it is.. In any case that they detect some cancer in you and you didn't had any symptom besides this pain, This would be discovered at the right time, so with the proper treatment you will be ok. Treatment? well the quimios and taking some medicine, maybe some shots but - JUST IN CASE there is any cancer- You are really on time to win this fight. another symptoms? no, just the look of your boob could get like really bad as the color, the sensitivity, HUGE lump totally noticeable and it could look like a would.. This happens when you dont get a proper treatment on time. so dont worrry. i apologize if this make you get more nervous. I wish you the best of the lucks. i hope there is nothing serious in you. God bless you & take care of yourself. You should talk with your grandmas and ask her about how she felt or how she knew she had cancer. So you give yourself an idea and relate the symptoms you had.
