I have a story to share and I want to know what you think because all I can do for now is wait 5 days for results and cant stop crying just need your opinions and experience. I am a 23 year old female with no known family history of breast cancer. It all began about 3 weeks ago while on vacation. I noticed one big lump on my left breast and felt sore, warm, was dimpling, and uncomfortable. Then I realized there was another smaller one right on top. I went to the urgent care where they recommended a mammogram so I went to my doctor when I came back home and she recommended an US. I got that and the sonographer stepped out and when she returned she said I would need a mammogram as well. So I had both done and they released me and said I was most likely going to need a biopsy. I had this done on a Friday. On Monday my doctor calls me and says there was a "very suspicious lump" and required biopsy ASAP. I went today. They had to do 2 biopsies. The Dr. said the two lumps were only one that was connected. First the Dr. said since I am only 23 his plan was that I should not worry and that it was inflammation because of hormonal changes. While in the middle of the biopsy he says "change of plans, this is to firm" I interpreted that as no it is not inflammation. Then he tells me I need a biopsy on a different area which was the axillary took a sample from the lymph. So I had two ultrasound biopsies and then he sent me to have a mammogram again. The radiologist was training another girl and tells her "Dr....... said he found a new lump not discovered last time and it is in the axillary do I will try to capture both at once." This was scary, another one. So then today I had an appointment with my doctor for follow up but she says she does not have results for me until 5 days. She tells me if I am sure I have only had that lump measuring 7cmX7cm with the small one on top measuring 2cmX2cm. I said I only noticed it 3 weeks ago and she says it is too firm and to large to just be 3 weeks plus continues growing. She said because of the test already done and the way it is going she is not expecting to receive any good news and wants to see me in 5 days to give me the results. She also gave me a look as if she was certain of something bad just couldn't tell me until the results come in. She gave me a big hug and said I am sorry we just have to wait, she also saved me for the last patient of the day I work with Drs. I know she is expecting to give me bad news. I cant stop crying feel nauseous and short of breath because of this. I do not know what to think anymore. Please comment and tell me a little bit about your diagnosis of breast cancer. Thank you I appreciate your time.

Answer:
Your doctor really said, “the way it is going she is not expecting to receive any good news”? My question would be why? If you had the biopsy on Friday should would have known Monday or Tuesday at the latest if it was cancer. You are reading too much into things.

Are you sure you have the dimensions correct? 2cmx2cm is nearly as big as a golf ball. 7cmx7cm is as big as a tennis ball! When my breast cancer was diagnosed, I had a mammogram and ultrasound on the Thursday of what I was sure was a cyst. I was told they would have results in a couple of days and planned to ring on Monday to get them. 8:30am I received a call from the receptionist to tell me a Dr had reviewed my results and I had an appointment for 10:30am to see them. My own Dr did not work Mondays but I was told the appointment could not be delayed until the Tuesday. From this I was sure the news was bad so I rang my sister to go with me to the Dr's. Sure enough I was told it was cancer but tests would be needed to confirm details. I had both an appointment for biopsy and an appointment with the surgeon the next day (Tuesday). Scans, blood tests etc (I would have to check my records of what happened when) followed on Wednesday and I underwent a lumpectomy and axial node clearance on the Thursday. From your description it sounds like it is the axillary nodes that are involved rather than the actual breast tissue. It is hard waiting, but after the whirlwind that was my diagnosis I would interpret any delay as a good sign.

It would be very odd for you to have cancer at your age, but try to keep calm and not worry so much. Even if it is cancer, it is very treatable! I went through it all (my largest tumor was 2 together, making it a 5cm sucker) and am doing very well a couple years out of treatment. I got a preliminary diagnosis at the time of mamm/US from the radiologist who read the imaging. He said of course we won't know for sure until the biopsy, but with gut feeling and experience, let's proceed as if it is. He was much more likely to be accurate at the prediction than the referring doc, who is surely not an oncologist.
