Are my night sweats possibly the symptom of a serious disease?
-
Now, I already asked this and can't thank enough the people who answered so quickly, but I need to get this absolutely clear. I am a 20 year old male and experience night sweats usually about 2 times a week, once per night when it happens. If I change my t-shirt, it gets better and I don't wake up again. - there is no sweat on my face and hair, just my chest, back and armpits, sometimes a little in the boxer area. The problem is sometimes I get this irrational panic in the middle of the night after it happens that I have a horrible disease -> I am a hypochondriac and sometimes it defines my life, which I am not proud of. I have switched off the heating, as I live in halls and it gets from ridiculously hot to cold. Initially I thought this was the reason, but it keeps happening (although less frequently). And I am not sure if my own invoked depression causes it, but I feel kind of sick the next day. Half a pill of paracetamol, an afternoon nap and a few cups of tea fix it. I have a history of, well overmedicalisation of sorts. I have spent almost my entire childhood in a hospital due to a weak immune system, but I thought this was gone for good. Whatever it is, I AM going to the doctor tomorrow, so please don't give suggestions of the kind + I have read all articles around. Got a home test for HIV and a blood sugar test. The left mindf**k is cancer. It didn't help that in 50/50 the only mentioned symptom the protagonist had was night sweats. This kind of stuff gets to me. What I want to know now is, if you had suffered from a lymphoma or a serious disease connected to night sweats, were your night sweats were like mine: - no sweat on face - primarily once a night when it happens - twice -/+ times a week - T-shirt is wet around the neck so if I don't change it, I get a chill. - It started off pretty severe (I would wake up twice a night soaked), but now looks like one change fixes it. From time to time I will wake up at night and will be sort of sweaty, but not serious enough to change clothes. There is a strange sensation in my ears and neck, the ones you get when you are sort of nervous. - no other symptoms If you have experienced this, PLEASE go into more detail. It started off like this, but what happened next? Perhaps share sensations to the detail you are comfortable with. What came next, how long did it take, what did the doctors think it was before it was recognised as a serious illness? How did you deal with it? Thanks.

Answer:
Plamen, You haven't listed as having any of the classic lymphoma symptoms so in your case it doesn't seem like that is what is driving your night sweats. Very often night sweats are caused by hormonal deficiencies and levels in your endocrine system. As I listed yesterday another cause is some of these lifelong viral components EBV being a main offender alongng with HSV1. These two viruses alone are in my opinion responsible for well over 50% of cases of reactive lymph nodes and low grade fever/night sweats. These are the main Herpes family viruses and are SUPER contageous and tend to infect people in your very age group. We get teens and twenty-somethings on here every day, multiple times a day, seeking info concerning their swollen lymph nodes or other vague viral illness symptoms. These viruses cause a big reaction in your immune system after their initial infection, this lasts typically for about 2-6 weeks. Since you are seeing your physician tomorrow I would ask for a cbc blood test and an Epstein-Barr viral antibody/early antigen test. I work in a university research lab and we see these viruses in people all the time--most of them have no idea.

Just a thought, If you had a panic attack in your sleep this could be causing the sweat.
