    The problem with finding a 'cure for cancer' is that cancer is hundreds of diseases, not just one. The difficulty is that different cancers are caused by different things, so no one strategy can prevent them, and different cancers respond to different treatments so no one treatment can cure them all. There will never be a magic bullet that cures all cancer. But while there's no guaranteed cure for any type of cancer, that doesn't mean cancer is never cured - it's cured every day on an individual basis. Did you know, for example, that 70% of children with cancer are cured of it these days? 70%! We'd all rather it was 100%, but 70% is a far cry from no cure. And testicular cancer, Hodgkin's disease, and many cases of leukaemia can all be cured in adults with chemotherapy, most skin cancers are cured with surgery, and many cases of thyroid cancer and cancer of the larynx are cured with radiotherapy. Many other types of cancer are also cured if they are found early enough. So, the answer to your question, rally, is 'Never'. There will never be a Eureka! moment when a single substance or procedure is discovered that will reverse all types of cancer. Rather there will be steady, sometimes slow, progress - an improved treatment here , a way to reverse one type of cancer there, a way to prolong more lives. I was going to ignore Onlymatch4you's conspiracy theorist rant, but I do want to give you some facts about the 'Egyptian mummy' fiasco. His link refers to research from Manchester University which claims that cancer is a modern, human-made disease because they could find little evidence of it in Egyptian mummies and ancient skeletons. Very simplistic and misleading. The first glaringly obvious fact is that life expectancy was shorter then. Most cancers occur in people over 60; most of the remains examined were of people who died before the age of 50. If you examined a few thousand skeletons of people under 50 who died last year, you would find that only a very small minority had cancer. It's only in the last century that most people (in the west anyway) have been living long enough to develop cancer. It's astonishing to me that people undertaking research of this nature don't appear to have known that - unless they were very seriously misquoted and misrepresented. They are NOT LOOKING FOR A CURE. It would be far too devastating to the medical industry. Each cancer patient is worth between $500,000 and $1 million dollars to the industry. I know that sounds harsh and like a conspiracy theorist, but the truth is NO drug company has found a CURE to ANY disease in the last 200 years of their existence. Can you think of one disease they have cured? Just one? Drug companies agenda is to "Relieve symptoms and manage diseases. All that PINK money going to cancer cures just goes to drug companies that help them pay for R&D to provide more chemotherapy drugs and treatments that relieve symptoms. They are NOT looking for a CURE. We already have a cure for cancer. It has existed for centuries. In fact, they have only found one, just one mummy from primitive time that had any hint of cancer. Then you will begin to see why we have cancer and it is growing statistically, soon to overtake heart disease. Antibiotics and vaccines have played a huge part in increasing cancer. Sugar is a primary cause. Hydrogenation of oils, chemical fertilization, pesticides, even chlorination of our water supply has played a big part in this issue. Electromagnetic frequencies from cell phones, cell towers, power lines, and yes microwaving food have all contributed to the problem. The proliferation of BAD foods, processed foods, Fat food restaurants, bad oils for cooking like soybean, canola, cottonseed, and corn oils. Giving cows GRAINS to eat to make it cheap by subsidizing corn farmers with money to grow corn for animal feed has contributed. And now the grand daddy of them all, genetic engineering is creating huge DNA problems and with cross contamination of crops from that huge genetic experiment being promoted by Monsanto is a major destruction of our food supply and biodiversity that has kept man-kind healthy for centuries is being corrupted. 99% of all cancer is from INFECTIONS in the body. Find the infections and get rid of that and you will go a long way toward solving cancer problems. But when you do that, you will soon see that the infections are a result of the many things I've listed above. The cancer solution medical science is using today is so bad that they have had to redefine what "Cure" means. Medically, to cure a person means "Free of disease." They have now said if you survive more than 5 years AFTER YOU HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED, you have "Gone into remission." What a cop out. They encourage you to get an early diagnosis. Why? Primarily to be able to say statistically the chemotherapy is working better. Only 2.1% of patients that get chemotherapy live longer than 5 years. Sugar pills work better than that, yet to listen to these guys talk about how cancer treatments are saving lives, you would think we are winning the battle. Then and only then will you see a CURE for cancer happen. EDIT "lo_mcg" I noticed you used the word "CURE" in your diatribe and am wondering why. For your information: Testicular cancer, Hodgkin's disease, are the only two cancer's other than cervical cancer that have a slightly better 5 year remission than any other cancers from using chemotherapy. It is disingenuous of you to make that statement so cavalierly and then to go on and say they "can all be cured in adults with chemotherapy." That is so blatantly NOT TRUE and is very disgusting that you would say that knowing what you know. As you know, the study was done called "The Contribution of Cytotoxic Chemotherapy to 5-year Survival in Adult Malignancies. This study took every randomized controlled clinical trial performed in the U.S. from 1990 to 2004 and the results showed the above Cancer cure statistics. In that study, it is very clear that Hodkin's disease had a cure rate of 40.3% and Testes cancer a 37.7% cure rate. Non-hodgkin's lymphoma only a 10.5% and Cervical cancer 12%. All cancers combined had a 2.1% 5 year "Going into remission" success rate that did NOT die. You will be interested to know that the AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY in 2007 said "Surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy... seldom produce a cure." That was a quote from the "CANCER FACTS & FIGURES 2007."

There are so many cancers that it's unlikely it will ever be eradicated 100%. about 80% of cancers can be prevented by avoiding cigarettes, eating well and doing regular exercise, so that's the best prescription for all of us. About 20% of cancers are caused by the food we eat (e.g. look up furans online). about 20% are caused by vaccines and they're the ones that are most easily cured - they've recently introduced a vaccine for girls in England (should be boys too in my view!) against HPV (the virus responsible for most cervical cancer). So, for the rest of us, I suppose using condoms would also eradicate the spread of this cancer-causing virus ;-)

It depends, if money wasn't an option there would probably be a cure by now. But scientists have limited budgets to spend on equipment and experiments, so cures take longer to find and research has to be spread out. Lets just hope some genius comes along pretty soon :)

There is never going to be a single cure for cancer as it is not one disease but many hundreds of different conditions. There are already cures for some cancers.

I dont think they will find a cure for ALL cancer as there are so many different variations but some of them can be cured with treatment etc so they are getting there.
