How do I become an Oncology nurse?

I want to become a pediatric oncology nurse?

  • I'm a sophomore in high school, and I want to become a Pediatric Oncology Nurse. I want to know what types of classes I should start taking now, and any other types of things I should do to prepare myself. I also want to know how many years of college I would have to have, and what exactly I would need to do in college, and what classes I would take. I also want to know how hard it will be to become one.

  • Answer:

First, do extremely well in all your math and science classes. Next, when you start college, you can choose a pre-nursing major or biology. There are a lot of nursing prerequisites you have to take, and getting into nursing school is very competitiive. You can get a 2-yr degree or a 4-yr or BSN (bachelor of science-nursing). The 4-yr degree is becoming more desirable to employers than a 2-yr associate degree. Plus you will be more well-rounded by taking more different types of courses. Of course a very sweet, kind, caring personality is a must for any nurse. When you are past all the basic nursing courses, see if there is an elective of oncology or pedes so you can get your foot in the door.
