What is a lymph node in a lung?

What does a swollen lymph node in lungs mean?

  • An x-ray of a lung showed a swollen lymph node in the lung, what does this mean?

  • Answer:

In my experience, when we are doing repeat follow up CT scans on patients with a KNOWN cancer, we can see lymph nodes. They generally watch them to make sure they do not grow. Make sure you keep open communication with your doctor, and see a specialist, if you have not already. First off: "Clusters of lymph nodes are found in the underarms, groin, neck, chest, and abdomen." "They may become enlarged due to a tumor or infection. In some cases, they may feel enlarged due to past infections; although one may be perfectly healthy, he may still feel residually enlarged nodes." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lymph_node

It could be due to an infection or many other things. Have you asked your doctor about it? When I had surgery for my lung cancer the surgeon removed a lung lymph node over 10 mm in size… it was black and certainly swollen for I was a heavy smoker. Lymph nodes are all over your body and organs, for they serve as strainers for whatever the body deems harmful; that’s why they get swollen in the first place.
