Answer:
Here's what i've come to find out: 1. Give your horse a bath the day of the show. Allow to dry in stall or small enclosed arena with no where to roll or get dirty. If you don't have time the day of the show, do it the night before and keep in the specified place over night. 2. Always give a thorough grooming. 3. Braid your horses mane and tail. If you don't know how to braid- get a friend, family member or someone else to do it! 4. Don't get nervous! Just think of it as fun! I always do better when I'm relaxed. 5. Get matching tack that looks good on you're horse! I own a pitch-black mare and lime green looks absolutley stunning on her! 6. There are many products that you can spray on you're horses coat to make it shiny! The best shine though, is natural. It comes from a well-cared for, clean show-horse. Hope I helped! Good luck!

Two words: Good nutrition. That is the basis of every shiny healthy horse. The follow up to that is currying everyday with a brush down and rub down with a rag. It brings the natural oils to the surface of the coat and gives them a shine that no bottle can create.

USE MANE N' TAIL SHAMPOO, CONDITIONER, HAIR STRENGTHENER SPRAY LEAVE IN, SHINE ON SPRAY, DETANGLER SPRAY> Brush, curry your horse. Hose him or her off, shampoo your horse's WHOLE body. Get one of those big yellow sponges like you use for washing a car, and after you rub in the shampoo with your hands, rub the sponge ALL OVER. Rinse from the face to the butt, not up or down, not from the butt to the face. Shampoo the horse's mane and tail with your FINGERS. Pile your hands with shampoo and then rub your hands together and run your fingers through the hair. Do the mane and tail. Then, go back to the body, put a small amount of conditioner on your sponge, and squish the sponge. Rub it in the direction your horse's hair goes. Do this for both sides of the horse. Rinse WELL. Put a SMALL amount of conditioner in your hands and run your fingers through the mane and tail. Rinse WELL. Then, spray detangler spray on your horses mane and tail. Use a human comb to brush. Then spray the strengthener on the mane and tail. Let the horse dry all the way. After, he dries, spray the sine on spray all over his body, mane, and tail. Then, brush mane, tail, and body again. Make sure that you have your hair curled or straightened nicely and have it pulled up in a cute style, and that you DON'T wear makeup. Wear a hat. A nice one. Make sure you wear show clothes. (WRANGLER JEANS, LONG SLEEVED, DARK COLOR, BUTTON UP SHIRT, NICE, CLEAN BOOTS, HAT) Make sure your horse has a pretty bridle with rhinestones on it and a show saddle, depending on what you're doing, and a BREAST COLLAR. Make sure your saddle pad is colorful. Make sure you are CLEAN! Have your hair out of your face. Anymore questions? Just message me on my yahoo, and I will be happy to help.

I don't know if you ride English or Western but I ride English. So to begin with, make sure all your tack has been cleaned and oiled and looks in tip top shape. Buy a nice pair of breeches in a beige colour, field boots (tall boots), a show jacket and a blouse that matches. A pair of black gloves is also preferred. Make sure your hair is up under your helmet, a hair net is helpful with this. All this can be found at your local tack shop. Have a black velvet helmet. A Charles Owen always looks nice. Bath your horse in some shampoo. Oster shampoos are very nice, add a little Ivory dish soap to the bath to make him shine. Wash his tail with mane and tail shampoo and conditioner. Hire someone to braid his mane and forelock. Make sure you have lots of practice so you are in tip top shape and sure to be grand champion.

Cowboy Magic detangles any tail and any burr. They've also got a stain-remover for white horses. Victoria is right; good nutrition and daily grooming give the best shiny coats. Equishine is a daily horse vitamin that works GREAT to keep my horses sleek and shiny. For white markings that need to be extra white, dampen JUST the white area, then sprinkle some talcum powder there. The powder will stick to the white marking and make it shine whiter. Don't bother using expensive horsie shampoos; go to the grocery store or dollar store and pick up the cheap Vos5 or White Rain shampoo for less than a buck a bottle. It's pretty much the same thing. As other people have said, your horse WILL try to roll after a bath, no matter what, so keep him someplace CLEAN until the show. Don't change into your show clothes until the last minute, or you WILL end up dirtier than your horse is! If you're shining and polishing your tack, too much oil can darken light tack and leave stains on your butt. A little goes a long way!
