Do you ride/own a Riding Shetland Pony [NOT miniatures]?

  • name: Age: sex: Color: Height: Disipline: Attitude: Bouncy: Do you show her/him: whats your favortie thing to do with your pony?: and who rides the pony?: how long have you owned him/her? riders weight and hight?: Pic: so after reciveing anther stupid comment on youtube on my shetland, about how much they can carry... i've noticed how much people let small ponys get away with stuff and not work them, treat them like cute little dogs who in the end up hurting some child beacuse they dont understand respect and personal space, i've fixed so many small ponys its not funny.... and shetlands get a bad name beacuse people dont understand they can do the same amount of damage as a big horse espeacily to a small child, and afterall they were breed to be the daught horse of the pony world, and we all know there personailtys :) cheeky....stuborn....smart and the list goes on.... i understand shetlands range from 7hh to 10.2hh, but why do people think that beacuse a miniature can only take a childs weight that it applys to all the shetlands and that teenagers cannot ride them, shetlands are great project ponys for a teen / small adults, or for a ten year old who needs a second pony, but is to scread to get on a 12hh pony or for someone to show under saddle, i mean no one complains when an obese person gets on a 14hh- 15hh horse simply beacuse they have long legs, its the same deal as a teen/small adult geting on a shetland okay im going to shut up :) i can go on forever..... name: Thorpeville Della [della] Age: 10 rising 11 sex: mare Color: dark brown Height: 9.1hh Disipline: Everything, [best versatile pony ever] Attitude: she trys her best at everything, very sweet and mature, but is a bit timid from her past [long story] Bouncy: no amazing movement Do you show her/him: I wish i could she would be ace, maybe one day whats your favortie thing to do with your pony?:gives lots of huggles and kissies :) but the best thing about her, everything shes my dream pony, and who rides the pony?: i do mainly, my begineer friends come out to have lesson and a couple of young kids ride her on the lead riders weight and hight?: im 50 kgs, 5'4 and skinny how long have you owned him/her? 9 months, broke her in myself Pic: http://s668.photobucket.com/albums/vv45/missmouseyrox/?action=view&current=leahdellahalterless.jpg http://s668.photobucket.com/albums/vv45/missmouseyrox/?action=view&current=leahdellahalterless.jpg http://s668.photobucket.com/albums/vv45/missmouseyrox/?action=view&current=della3-1.jpg

  • Answer:

Cheeky 20 years young G Black 9.2 All your other questions I will answer in the following summary Cheeky was purchased by my daughter for my grand kids aged 9 to 6 as a beginners pony. He is so quiet that I also use him in riding programs working with children who have a wide range of disabilities & support needs. One of his riders (small for his age 5) now has the ability to walk independently on a flat surface without his walking frame. Because of the development of his core strength, leg muscles & motor skills is now learning to ride Cheeky without the physical assistance he needed from people supporting him in the saddle & leading the pony when he started. Another young 4 yo was so scared of the pony but is now learning how to balance himself on a pad with a roller. To develop his core strenth & motor skills we have adapted exercises that he enjoys doing. Whatever our age don't we hate those exercises specialists tell us to do? On his riding days he wakes early, cannot get himself out of bed, has limited speech but in his own way uses sign language to say he wants to ride. These are only two examples of children with disabilities he has helped. Cheeky hates adults riding him. He will pigroot, try to get his head down to buck, & do all the nasty things smart ponies will do. Kids no worries. He is fantastic & will tolerate anything from them. Love their attitude, personality & character.

Not mine, but I regularly train/ride/drive them. Neville and Claude 15 and 17 Both geldings Bay and black Both 10hh Pleasure riding, the odd (LITTLE) x jump, driving as a pair Both cheeky, but bombproof. My 7 year old niece takes both out hunting through the season. Neville does mornings and Claude afternoons! Not bouncy, feel choppy to me due to short legs, but fairly smooth. I show them as a driven pair and my niece takes them ridden M&M. We regularly take them out on our local gallops for a blow out and they love it. The jockeys love it too; I think it makes their fortnight! My niece rides Nev and I ride Claude, as he has a bit more bone. They have been with my friend since they were rescued as yearlings. I have ridden them since I was 3 and they have always been around so long as I can remember (I'm 20 this month!) I'm 5'6" and 8 stone (I think that's 110 pounds ish!) No pics, I'm afraid. These two aren't mine, so it's not my place.

Maybe. I kind of suspect my pony might be a Shetland x Arabian mix. He was rescued from a farm with lots of arabians on it, and turned out taller than what they suspect was his mother. name: sorry, I don't put my horses' names on here Age: almost 5 sex: gelding Color: chocolate palomino Height: 12hh Disipline: pony club, trail rides, mounted games, etc. Attitude: happy and curious Bouncy: no, he's actually very smooth Do you show her/him: He's been to one event, and pony club games and tetrathlon rallies. He will do more showing, but not a heavy show schedule. whats your favortie thing to do with your pony?: take him new places and who rides the pony?: I trained him and still ride him once in a while.
