Starting Go-Kart racing?

Would this be okay for starting out in barrel racing?

  • Would this tack be okay for starting out in barrel racing, i have ridden in an abetta saddle for about a year now and it fits me and my horse very well, so i was wondering if the saddle would hold up for barrel racing i heard good and bad things about abettas. http://www.chicksaddlery.com/page/CDS/PROD/20501X And also does this look like an okay headstall or does it look cheap. http://www.chicksaddlery.com/page/CDS/PROD/FB2635

  • Answer:

I could be wrong because i am a roper and therefore need roping saddles, but they both look rather flimsy... the saddle looks like after much wear, it will begin to fall apart. After looking at the headstall and seeing the price, i personally would look for something a little more expensive but that's just me because they will most likely hold up a bit better. Hope this helps! Also, i would consider what i bought as to whether or not it had a warranty. As for myself looking for a new saddle, a good roping saddle like i need will range anywhere from $2800 up... hope this helps! edit: i also agree with the part about the leather above. leather will most likely hold up a lot better but if you've never had a leather saddle, make SURE that the tree and leather are good

Invest in a leather saddle, it'll last so much longer and hold up better. Even more comfy. Trust me. I wouldn't run barrels in a synthetic... i have one, and it just doesn't feel safe. You can find a nice used leather one for that price on ebay. That's an okay headstall, but I would keep looking.

I prefer leather saddles myself, but thats just me lol. I currently have a barrel saddle and it was a little more expensive than that one but its leather and somewhat tooled. As for the headstall it should be fine, also if you don't want to pay to ship it you can find one at fleet farm or rural king. Good luck! :)

No

Both will work fine for starting. Later on it would be best to invest in really good quality leather tack. The tack needs to hold up to the stress it receives during racing, something failing while going at top speed will result in injury to you or the horse.

I would get a leather saddle. But if you don't want a leather one, do not get that one. I actually have that headstall. Worst headstall I have. Sure it's pretty, but it's broken 3 times. And the buckle looking things on the side are really sharp and piss my horse's off. So no, I wouldn't get that headstall either. A good brand of saddle is a Circle Y or Circle S. I actually prefer a Circle S over a Circle Y. They are more comfortable to me. There are some other brands but they are really expensive. And don't forget a good pad! I recommend Classic Equine and Showman. Do not get a waffle on it though!

Wellll it would work I suppose but thats not really a barrel saddle and I dont think itll do u much justice, however circle y saddles are cheaper saddles that are a pretty good starting saddle...also have you considered looking at used saddles??? and the headstall looks fine, just about any weastern headstall will work, its just a matter of preferance...in the future take a look at Double J -pozzi pro racer- barrel saddles, thats what I have and I love mine...just stay away from the stingray seats, I noticed my friends wore really fast but the leather ones are fantastic....but here a link to a used circle y saddle in pretty nice shape $421 good luck :) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150641383142&clk_rvr_id=253740988659
