Who are some famous horse riders that jump?

Am i experienced enough to own a horse on part share/loan?

  • Hey:) I've been riding since i was 9, now i'm nearly 16. However i've only been riding for 5 and a half years because i took a break. I came back into riding one year ago, i can walk, trot and canter and i am learning to jump. Theres this horse at the yard who i love, i've been riding him for a while now, i really like him. Hes a lovely horse, a bit lazy though:P. I have alot of experience with stable management, i've sat courses in it and have been going up and helping at my yard since i started riding. The yard i ride at is small and has a lot of experienced riders and staff on hand to help. My parents have agreed to let me get him on part share/loan if i want to, but i don't want to if i am not experienced enough, because then i wouldn't want to let him or myself down. Any feedback is appreciated:)

It sounds like you've had alot of education in the area of horse care. The most important thing you need to know is that the welfare of the horse always comes first. The fact that you worry you might let the horse down makes me think you have that. I think a lease is a great way to get used to horse ownership. Just make sure you are clear with what your responsibilities will be for care and upkeep. Who will pay for the farrier, for shots. Who will pay for any vet care if the horse becomes hurt? You can start with a short-term lease - say, 3 months to see how you feel about it. Remember that when you agree to take on the care of the horse, you need to make sure you have the time to get out there every day (or whatever your lease specifies), even in the dark and cold and rain. Even a lease means a big responsibility.

your situation is very similar to mine i got back into riding a year ago and am the same as you! of course you are, i believe the best way to learn is to do it yourself, and the experienced people will help you alot, if you loan it i think this is the best way to learn because the horse will already have a farrier and vet etc, which means not starting on your own, also all the exams you've done will help, make sure to buy some sort of handbook, and ask about literally everything, vetting clipping worming schooling feeding turnout stabling costs shodding! the list is endless, but yes i think your ready!

Not only is it about your experience in the saddle with a horse but also on the ground as well, meaning knowing how much to feed, how to properly clean & strip a stall, knowing first aid to any basic injury, and just being able to tell when your horse is a bit off. If you've got all that down, i'd say go for it.

Yh u seem experienced enough from what u have wrote with enough stable mangement lessons u should be ok... u can walk trot and canter right so thats good if ur worried about not having enough experience get the horse on loan and whilst you have him get ur instructor to give u some private stable mangement lessons to gain confidence HoPe I hElPeD!! :)

If the horse fits your level of riding then leasing, or loaning, is a good option to teach you more about taking care of a horse and will improve your riding since you will probably be able to ride more often.
