Weird nasally breathing with my horse?

Miniature horse is breathing heavily?

  • I have a 1 year old Miniature colt. It has been a wet and a bit chilly here lately, and just today ( the first nice day of the week- warm and dry) I noticed he was breathing funny. I could tell because his sides were blowing up big then small again. That was all happening fast too.. is he sick? ( btw in Ohio)

  • Answer:

We breed miniature horses, and have had a couple like that, its usually seasonal though. Its only really been, if a mare is in foal, its been dusty or theyve been running around alot. We havent had any problems with it but thats not to say it could be something more serious. I would keep an eye on him, make sure theres no blood or anything in his nose. Ticks can affect their lungs to, but you would have more signs then just heavy breathing. Hope he is ok

I would contact my vet immediately if I were you, it could be a number of things but a veterinary diagnosis is the best route to take...

you should probably get it to a vet because horses can get pneumonia too and it can kill it pretty fast and even if its not pneumonia if you've noticed something out of the ordinary you should probably get it checked out :D
