How do I get a Nirvana sound on guitar?

When I play certain songs on my Acoustic guitar it doesn't sound right?

  • I am a beginner guitar player and can play some simple songs and chords etc.However when trying to learn some other songs like heart breaker by led zeppelin I can't get it to sound right. But when someone else plays it it sounds great, it's becoming very frustrating. Also when learning come as you are by nirvana even though i know how to play the song I cannot get it to sound right when I play it. To be honest I am not exactly sure if my guitar is 100% in tune but even if wasn't how come some songs and chords I play sound fine? please help thank-you :)

    More practice! As for the Nirvana tunes, many of them require a different tuning than standard to play them correctly. I believe "Come As You Are" is one of them.

This is a longshot because I have no idea how old your gear is. Or anything about your playing at all. But just a thought. If your truss rod is in need of adjustment, then you will have certain areas of the neck begin to fret out when you attempt to play. If when you said that someone else played it and it sounds fine, and that scenario was on your specific guitar, then nevermind. Past that, just practice, practice, practice,

Are you sure the chords are the right chords? Have you got the correct strumming pattern? Maybe you just need to practise some more. How about you get someone who can play those songs to teach you them and make sure you're doing everything correctly.
