What are some good guitar sheet music books?

Why is music theory important?/wil it improve guitar playing?

• I have been playing guitar for like 3 months. all I've been doing is learning some songs by tab, and some chords. I don't really know what to do to improve, because all I'm doing is learning songs at the same level but not improving. would learning music theory help me? and if so how much, and in what ways? I can read sheet music, and know the notes(I don't only just know tab) and that's pretty much all I know. if you know ways to improve please tell me, and also reccomend music theory books good for guitar.

  music theory explains why certain notes go together; it also teaches you how to understand what you hear. If you understand what you play and what you hear, you will improve. You'll also learn ways to think about music that you would not know otherwise; for example, if there is a mistake in the music, you'll know it and you'll know how to correct it. You can also learn how to play better chords than what's written. And how to play anything you hear, without needing music. And how to play more complex things. And how to put all of that together. The best way to learn theory is in a class with a teacher who can play all of the examples for you. You have to understand what things *sound* like not just what notes are on the page. This is really important. If you can't hear it, you don't understand it.
