How to start to write a song?

  • kay well im into music and piano singing and all that its what i wanna do but i wanna write my own songs i have something very person i would like to write about but im not sure where and how to start it .. its about someone close to me that got a tumor and cancer in her spin i love this person with all my heart and i wanna write a song about them to help get out some of my emotions they are still alive and fighting but i wanna write about it and make it into a song can someone tell me where to start and how to do it ? thanks so much (:

    Find some time with just pen and a lot of paper and express yourself lyrically. It could be rapid, but spend as much time as needed to communicate how you feel. Let the piano instrumental naturally build around your lyrics :)

There isn't a specific spot on where to start when you write a song. I usually start with the lyrics but that's me and I am more of a vocalist than an instrumentalist. It depends on what you are thinking of at the time I guess. You are at the piano start to pound it out and write what you liked to hear then add lyrics or add them while you are playing. Whatever you feel the most comfortable doing I guess. Enjoy your writing and the best of luck to her, I hope the song helps her even in the slightest. :)
