Do you think that the greatest era for songs was the 60s,70s and the 80s ?
-
in some respect, accolades to the 90s but as much as I love that decade I still think that there was a vacuum left after the end of the 80s. so many great bands, artists sat back and watched a new dawn..a new era arrive. The 90s. ppl say the 80s was experimentation, but then the 90s was experimentation and learning from what it could from the 80s in many ways too, as well as moving with the times. I just feel that we saw more covers of great 60s,70s and 80s songs in the 90s and 00's than we ever did, A mark of a true great band or artist is when he/she/they put out a song or album which has no covers of original hits, but spurns out timeless classics that will inevitably go down as one of the great albums and songs ever. I don't think we're seeing much of that right now. It is my belief that in 2009 music sux big time. the early 90s are excusable , the late 90s meh, but its mid-late 2000s which are uncreative, and lacking in many departments. I want to hear from everyone on this, be you from the USA or the UK or wherever you may be, music enthusiasts of all ages ESPECIALY those who are in their 50s or 60s please please get back to me on this. You just have to look for music. I hate the radio because it just plays uninspired crap. It's funny, because my mom and dad grew up in the 60s and they think that most of the music then was crap.
I think the 60's,70's and early 80's was the best time for Pop and Rock music. The sounds were all fresh and original. The Bands of today may have all the good intentions in the world but cant play.North America is the place where all the best emerging bands are at the moment.Sorry to Kaiser Chiefs and all the other young pretenders, but to my generation you are just noisy Bar Chord Amateurs.
I'm 52. I definitely think THE greatest era for music was late 60s-early/mid 70s. The late 70s brought in disco (yuck) and easy-listening pseudo-rock ballads (double yuck). I DID like the turning tide of the 80s music (some techno-pop, grunge, and the advent of alternative music - no hair bands please). Like you said...the 90s were 'okay'...muscians still turning out some original stuff but it was losing it's taste of 'rock' influence...I could sense true rock and roll ending as a genre. As for today's music...I don't even listen to the radio anymore...and I can't remember the last time I bought a CD by a current band...I think the last one was Secret Machine (Now Here Is Nowhere) back in 2005. I only listen to my own mixes now.
My era was the Late 50/60s the music was great and I still listen to it today, Sorry I don't Like Today's so called Modern Music, Now that is crap
I was an early teenager in 1960, and thought that the "pop" music of that time was great. Through the 60's , I became more and more interested, and, sometimes, involved in music, and thought it was great. I went to concerts, clubs, hops and any other venue you could name.....and the music was great. In the 70's I was still going to the "discos" that had begun to open in the 60's, and the music was great. In the early 80's, I became a part-time mobile DJ, and the music was great. Mid 80's I started working clubs occasionally, and had a couple of residencies, and the music was great. I worked clubs, and anything else that came along, for 20+ years, and the music was great. Now, having retired from all of that, I am a bit out of touch - but - hey!!!-- isn't there some really great music about???????
