Is it hard to be a music producer?

What do i have to do to be a music producer?

  • the type of music i like is hip-hop reggaeton and r&b...what do i do as a music producer?...and what should i study to get prepared...how do i get ready to be a music producer?

  • Answer:

Very tough question.... but not impossible.... 1. Learn music whether you do Keyboards...or Drum Machines. Reggaeton is real simple because they mostly use MIDI, Programmers, Sequencers, Drum Machines Keyboards A LOT just like Rappers do. Learn how to program Keyboards using MIDI and MIDI controllers. R&B is mostly Bass, Drums Keys, very little guitar...lots of Vocals in it. 2. Know your basic Chords like A, E, B, C, D...both in Majord & minors and etc. Why? Because when you are playing Keyboards for that kind of music....you really need to know your Basic Chords. When programming stuff...you just need to knowing your BPMS ( Beats Per Minute) in your songs. I dont do programming, but I know this is what is needed for it. 3. To Be a Pro Producer in music...you need to produce music yourself first because you evenn work with another Artist or Band. Why? Because your need CD demos of your work in order to work with them. If you are going to work with other Artists or Bands....you need to have your own CD demos ready to show them what you do and what you can do for them music wise. So they have an idea of what your style is and what "YOUR SOUND" is like Producing your own music will produce experence for you...which is priceless. 4. Take some Music Theory Classes or Songwriting Classes if you want to be a serious Producer. I only took a few guitar classes and a few drum lessons. But I did most of my 20 years privately on work on my own, experimenting with my style in writing songs, writing poetry, and song lyrics. Sure, I jammed with bands in High School, was also a former Drum Roadie for a 3 Bands and worked at a Rehearsal Studio and etc. However, those real experiences were very helpful, but they are not not the biggest chunk of my career. I've played drum for 21 years, performed in 7 Drum Contests, wrote songs lyrics for 18 years, produced 2 Solo CD demos so far and have played guitar for 10 years. THAT is my foundation right there.... 5. Get hooked up with your local Rehearsal and Recording Studios becasue they have tons of Artists / Bands going through there. Go to the stores...browse though the flyers on the tables and see what interests you. Every single time I go down to my local Guitar Center...there are tons of flyers on the walls. Also, look at these sites too. www.meanstreet.com www.musicconnection.com www.performermag.com www.ilivetoplay.net www.reverbnation.com www.bandloop.com www.tunecore.com Hope this helps and good luck
