How do I sing in my mixed voice?

When i sing in mixed voice, how do i bring a more chest sound to it? right now i just kind of flex my stomach?

  • Answer:

It helps if you try to kind of "drop your throat". it may sound like it won't work, but it does. this may sound weird, but put your finger to the roof of your mouth. put it back far enough to where you can touch the soft part, but not so far back that you gag. Then sing in a high voice. Feel anything? then "drop your throat". your soft palette should raise. That's when you know you are singing in your chest voice.

It's never really good to use any other part of your body other than your vocal cords, but I don't think you were asking this in a literal sense :). Whenever I go into a mixed voice, I tend to feel it more in the head than the chest, but that doesn't really matter, I think... Anyway, there are exercises to blend the chest and head together to the point of equilibrium but I do not know the specifics. Go get a program called Mastering Mix by Brett Manning. I thought it was effective, and there are ways to get the program other than buying it...XD.
