How can I practice my voice for singing?

How often per day should i train/practice my voice if i'm a beginner in singing? Advice much appreciated!?

  • I own the Brett Manning's Singing Success kit with the 12 cd's with the vocal training program and have recently begun using it. I'm focusing on building my voice and gradually improving it to earn a steady vocal range, and need advice on how often to train my voice per day, and was wondering if anyone had any tips to help me/get me started. I would truly appreciate any help from singers out there, like how you first started out and gradually built a steady voice. Thanks :) -x-

  • Answer:

Start slow - don't push yourself too much. Singing should be easy. For some reason, we have this conception that it should be extremely difficult. It just takes patience to build a strong voice. Start with 30 minutes a day of focused exercises, and build up from there. Also, try to cut down on singing in the car, along with songs on the radio, your ipod, etc. You want to build good technical habits, and singing along can be detrimental to them.

You should sing for 30 minutes everyday.

You never want to push your voice so, I say about 30- 45 minutes, 20 minutes of it should be warm-up and as you become more comfortable, 1 hour to 2, no more or you'll become sore and can't sing for a while!
