Can you change the tone of your singing voice?

  • I'm in a band and I want to improve the tone of my voice, but first I just want to know if it's possible, and if so, how?

    You CAN'T COMPLETELY alter your tone quality...BUT if you are nasal or if you pronounce your vowel sounds in a certain way,changes can be made. First off,remember the resonators:chest cavity when phonating in lower register;cheekbones,nose and head when producing higher notes. Second,breathe properly.The way the air flows thru ur cords makes a difference to your sound. If you're talking about say,Shakira,Aguilera or Elvis-they ARE INDEED altering their tone but they are obviously not using technique.

Absolutely possible! Stand up straight, and take in a complete breath. Practice your breathing on your own time- taking a deep breath in, and blowing out slowly is just one way to strengthen this ability. As far as the tone of your voice goes, I would go to a voice teacher if you're looking for anything serious.. But for now, I'll just tell you pronounce your vowels clearly, put endings on your words, and breathe on rests so everything comes out smoothly. Good luck!
