How can I tell if I am a baritone or a tenor?

Bass, Baritone or Tenor?

  • Does it depend on the tone of my voice or the range? And how can I tell what one I am? I took lessons for a while, and my teacher kept changing her mind on whether I was a Tenor or a Baritone.

  • Answer:

the range actually... and your age! because I had a voice teacher tell me that your voice matures fully in your late 20 to early thirties which could be why your teacher was so unsure... but unless you are a classical / Operatic singer you can easily float in between depending on the song without taking criticism! here this page might help shed a little more light on vocal ranges: your-personal-singing-guide.com/vocal-…

It mostly depends on your range. If you are more comfortable reaching very low notes, then more likely you are a bass. If you can hit higher notes, but not as high as an alto, you are more likely a tenor. If you are just in between that, you are most likely a baritone. Now tone I don't think has anything to do with it, but I don't know everything in the world so I may be wrong.
