Have I damaged my singing voice?

Help with a damaged singing voice!! please help!!?

  • im afraid that i have over used/abused my voice. i know i shouldn't have, but i have been yelling and screaming and over using my voice regularly for the last year in a half.and in addition to that, i've been pushing my voice to sing higher, and I've been singing every day, but now im learning that some of the things i've been doing are not vocally healthy. But now i cant sing high at all, let alone sing anything the way i used to. Is it permanent? can i fix it? i don't care what it is, i just want to have the same voice i used to or at least something close to that. please help!

  • Answer:

I come from a family of singers and something my grandma taught me is to talk a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil and swallow it but not all te way, just hold it in your throught for 15-30 seconds then swallow. It will sooth the inside or ur throught

If it's a short-term strain of the vocal chords, resting your voice (note - *dont* whisper, just use a very quiet voice, that actually causes less strain) and various soothing things for the throat (usually involving honey and/or lemon) will do it. However, if you've been doing bad things to your voice for a year and a half, that's long-term damage, not short term. You'll probably want to contact a voice teacher who specializes in voice rehabilitation to see what can be done.
