How do you sing with twang?

Why do I sing in a strong Country and Western-style American twang?

  • I've noticed that no matter what song I'm singin' at the time, I always seem to "do tha' Country thang when I sang", ya know whad I mean, y'all? And quite frankly, I'm buggered if I know why that is, 'cos, for the record, I'm from LONDON, (ENGLAND), and when I talk, I have the broadest NORTH LONDON accent you've EVER heard in yer life, and it couldn't be more different from the accent I sing in. I mean, last time I sang on-stage, the song I was singin' contained the word "dancin'" in the lyrics, and I pronounced it "daincin'"- could there be a reason for this, please? I've been told this sounds quite sexy, but it's still weird to me, all the same, as I've never been to America in me bloody life! Could there be a reason for this, please, and if so, what? If it helps, I listen to a lot of Brenda Lee, Leann Rimes and whatnot! Much obliged in advance, guys! Peace and love! Be lucky! :)

  • Answer:

In reference to your dancing becoming daincing, try to say the words in two parts. Dancing => dan cing => Dan sing. Dont slur your words or drag them in any sense. This will prevent more on the dragging of pronouncation thing. Take the time to take in breaths while talking. This helps a lot. Like in any vocal singing activities, try to sing with your diaphragm and not your throat. i suggest you to check out tips on singing styles like vibrato, felsato, tenor and all those. You get the general ideas to use your voice in many different manner. Like for me, i have difficulties singing in a higher pitch. So i sound a lot like Elvis Presley. Instead of Justin Timberlake. Which is kinda cool because i like most oldies songs. Find a way you can familiarize the singing with your normal speech.

You could be just the way you were born As I always say "Sometimes your voice chooses you not you chooses your voice" Get what I mean?

Singing is different than talking, a lot of people sing in a different accent than they speak, sounds like you're influenced by Country singers you listen to a lot.
