Is it necessary to know how to read music to be a good singer?

In chorus class we learn how to read music but i honestly cant see hiw it is helping me... Do other famous singers like adele, lady antebellum, lady gaga etc know how to read music and do they use it to help them write songs?

I wouldn't say that it is a necessity to learn how to read music. A lot of artists in the music business do know how to read music though, but it may also be because they play instruments. Lady Gaga plays piano, the guys in Lady Antebellum play as well (I'm not sure if the girl singer does [sorry, I'm unfamiliar with this band, but I do like their music]), and I believe that Adele can play piano as well. (: All I have to say is just remember "Do re mi fa so la te do" (I probably butchered that, didn't I? I haven't been to chorus since last year). Just practice and I'm sure you'll excel vocally!
