Can you learn how to sing?
-
I take piano lessons. When I auditioned for musical lessons, my piano professor asked me if I sing in a choir or if I get vocal lessons because I sang what he played powerful and clear. The other professor(vocal coach and owner of the school) said I can sing but if she helped me. My mom and dad won't let me take vocal lessons. But my mom has a friend that lives near our house. She was a vocal coach(one of the best) and organized singing contest for kids and teens(it was very successful). When I learn how to play songs(like 'Someone like you' by Adele) I will go and sing for her. Problem is I don't like the way I sound, I think it's rough. Also, there are times when I can sing powerfully and clear, and there are times when I sound like a tone-deaf person. Can I learn how to sing with vocal lessons or is my case hopeless?

Answer:
Your diet and a bunch of other things affect your voice Avoid the following to have a healthy voice Alcohol, mint, coke, fatty foods, mouthwash, anything thats fried and not healthy and any type of drugs or things you smoke And never.....never....never....SCREAM never, that will ruin your voice and dont over sing or throat sing, and when your voice is raspy for more than a week.... Rest your voice. and join a choir it helps you practice I hope this helps you

You didn't say how old you were and this matters as I would suspect your still going through puberty so you have an immature larynx. [are you 20ish] Ask Mum if you can try 5 lessons or even three, to see if you like the teacher and whether you really want to sing. I think you may get quite a surprise when you realise the amount of practice and work you will need to put in. Gosh you may even love the teaching and become a really good singer. You go for it. A good voice coach will bring out the best in your voice so you go and sing for her and let her decide. Good luck sweetie
One of my friends told me that he saw something about a study on singing, and it proved that EVERYONE has the same potential to have a good singing voice. Some just take more tuning of their voices than others. Good luck!
The more you do it, the better at doing it you get. (unless your genetically tone-deaf or sound like a chipmunk.
You can learn how to train your voice to have a singing voice, but you won't become the next Rihanna if you have no potential.
