How can I improve my singing voice?

How can I improve my singing voice? re: tone and tune (please read)?

  • I'm not sure if I'm an alto or a soprano. I sing soprano in choir but have a similar tone of singing to Zooey deschanel who is an alto. Anyway, I find my voice is weak. I can also only sing decent after warming up for a while.. For the weakness thing, I've tried breathing exercises but it hasn't worked. When I'm singing I know I can hit the note, like I can feel it but my tone ruins it and something just makes it have a rough tone.. How can I fix this and sing clear and strong? Also any tips for singing in tune all the time? Thank you!

Use your diaphragm!!!

1. Stand up straight. 2. Push up with your hands to the sky as far as you can for about 10 seconds. 3. Stay in this position and lean to both sides as far as you can for about 10 seconds for each side. 4. Lean your head forward and push on an invisible wall in front of you for about 20 seconds. 5. Lean forward, lock your arms, cross them as far as you can for about 10 seconds. 6. Roll your shoulders for about 10 seconds. 7. Roll your head forward, roll to the right side, put pressure on your head with your right hand, lock your left arm and slowly bring it up and down. (you should feel pressure on your neck.) Roll your head to the other side and repeat the process but with opposite arms. Do each stretch for about 15 seconds. 8. Drink a glass of tonic water or another sugar-free carbonated soda. 9. Sing!
