Answer:
Sorry, but it will be hard to get into exactly what they teach in singing lessons without going to them yourself. I want to become a singer/actress and I am currently attending singing lessons for the music high school that I am going to. Basically any song that you like and what you feel works well with your voice. If you don't have the money for lessons right now, look on Youtube for anyone giving singing tips/lessons in their videos. Hope I helped!

What gets taught in singing lessons depends on what your voice needs. Your teacher puts together a program tailored to your voice. What gets taught changes as your voice develops. In ten tears time you might still be doing some of the stuff you did when starting out, but you won't be doing any advanced work when you start out. Voices take time to develop. There is no quick fix. Your teacher also can advise you on a range of songs that suit your voice, personality and musical interests. There is no point in tackling something that you hate, doesn't suit your voice and is too hard for where you are at that moment. Keep away from on-line, DVD, books and other stuff that promises to teach you how to sing, according to a system. It may have ideas in it you may like to try, but a lot of it is really awful and you can easily end up damaging your voice. There are a lot of really good books with singing and breathing exercises in them, your teacher would be able to recommend the better ones. There is also a lot of really bad stuff out there. Some of these "systems" may have things in them, that worked for the presenter, or may help some people, but you don't know yet what is right for your voice. In the beginning, you don't have the knowledge that will help you make a wise decision about what is useful and what is not. Yes, I have looked at some of the YouTube "lessons". Mostly make me cringe, although a few were a good laugh. Voices are really fragile instruments and need careful training and looking after.
