How can i get better at singing?

How can i get better at singing without lessons?

  • ok, well lets just start off by saying i LOVE singing. But my voice isn't that great. i love to sing nu metal and rock, mostly Everclear songs and Linkin park songs. but i don't wanna take lessons cause i am way to busy, but i like singing and i wanna join a band when i'm in high school. i know i can improve by scaling and just practicing but for any singers out there, if you could help me i would really be thankful! if i show improvement in the next 7 days from your techniques, i will give you best answer, plus a thank you e-mail. i know it doesn't sound like much but if you could help out a fellow musician, it would be a huge reward to me! Thank you.

Yes another question that has been answered... however try to find tutorials on youtube and other tips from the internet. Some are good, some are bad, choose which you think suits you and work on that. The best to find something with a lot of details http://miketheblacksheep.wordpress.com/2009/03/16/is-the-screamo-singing-dangerous-for-the-vocal-chords/ M.W

I don't believe lessons can actually teach you how to sing it can improve your singing abilities. It's like drawing some people are born to draw, paint and the go to school to get better at what they do. Try singing a song that you like, I mean one that you really feel passionate about and one that you feel comfortable with, Try to stick with an artist that sound similar to your tone. You mention that your very busy, if you want to sing and sing well, you have to make time to get better at what you want to accomplish.

go on youtube, then type singing lessons. on playlist there is a lady called louissa lamb (i think it's her name) click on that. or practice, to get a bit better you can record your sing on your phone or cam corder. i done that before, i sound like a toddler. i can't sing. most people in world cant sing (thats the fact)

In short, you can't. You need a trained ear to tell you that you're singing in a way that won't thrash your vocal chords.

Well, before you start singing a specific style, you need to learn some basic singing technique. Good technique can't be developed in a week. If you take lessons, you will notice a difference in about a month, but it takes much longer to be really good. Some of it is your genetics, but not always. For example, I can sing well (not trying to brag), but my parents aren't that great. Although I do have a very distant cousin who is currently training as an operatic tenor. Rock music can be especially hard to sing because of the screaming and hoarsness it can cause on the voice. The most important thing you should do is match pitch. If you can't match pitch, then you probably can't sing. If you don't already have one, I recommend getting a keyboard. Then play a note within your range. Practice this for a while until you can easily match the pitch. You also need to know how to work the different parts of your voice: chest voice, middle voice, mixed voice ( a combination of chest voice and falsetto, takes a while to develop, only for guys), head voice, falsetto (guys only I believe), and whistle register for girls. It's impossible to improve in a week. Don't try straining yourself. You could cause permanent vocal damage if it's continous. I recommend picking up a copy of "Singing for Dummies". It includes a CD that is really helpful.

Your best bet is to buy a vocal training program so that you can work on it whenever you have the time and at your own pace.
