How to improve my singing voice?

How do I improve my singing and my singing voice?

  • I'm okay at singing, I suppose I'm pretty average. Because I haven't been trained or anything, my voice is a bit all over the place. Sometimes it sounds good, sometimes it sounds atrocious. Is there any way I can get better at singing? Or do you have any tips for me? I can't really have a singing teacher, so if you have any tips or anything to help, I'd be really grateful. Thanks a lot.

  • Answer:

First off, warm up your voice by singing a scale in your range. DO NOT strain yourself, as it will cause some damage that can be permanent. I would purchase a singing book and use it to help you out. Some colleges offer classes for even high school students, so they can take a class and learn how to improve their voice. It's cheaper than getting a one on one teacher.

Breathing is the most important thing with singing: Breath from the bowels of your lungs, so big breaths to start with (hold your stomach as well helps). Then singing things like "ME" "LA" etc in an upward and downward scale. DO NOT BREATHE THROUGH THE NOSE. It's horrible, espcially when you have the cold. Know your limits, eg I can't sing well as high as the beegees so I keep singing notes low. Hope this helps.

I have heared lemon in water helps your singing voice. Something about tightening the vocal cords.
