How to create a music festival?

How to create music when you lose the passion?

  • I mean every once in a while the music comes right out of the soul without any conscious effort, i can feel the energy surrounding me and I can feel it being twisted and manipulated with the power of music, and that is the greatest feeling in the world. The problem however is I have large phases where i don't feel anything i feel dead, and when i play i just feeling like i'm playing notes and creating noise, its not that i play badly but its like all it is is moving my finger, especially when i'm sober, This inconsistency is the factor which isn't getting me anywhere, there are times when every word I write just speaks to me and so i'll spend one whole day working on music, but halfway there i'll just quit because the passion just instantly dies and I spend the rest of the week just sleeping and being lazy. So my question is, how do i deal with this, I could just force myself to keep going but then the problem is the music becomes superficial and impure, its easy to create a catchy unmeaningful song, but I want to make music which is powerful and touching. So my question is, how do I stay consistant?

This is a good question and it's something many musicians and writers have had to overcome throughout history. Different people use different methods to get out of that rut. Do you know how to play multiple instruments? If you do, then switch up instruments for a while and see if any inspiration comes to you from -- say -- a piano. You don't neccessaraly even have to know how to play it. Just listen to different compositions from different, and maybe exotic instruments. Personally, I love the Sitar and the different types of the Harpsichord. Learn something new and practice it. Listen to some genres of music that have caught your interest but you never took the time to dig into. You can also search for inspiration elsewhere, other than music itself. Photography, paintings, movies and literature can provide inspiration, too. Hang out in different places. A change of scenery can be healthy. Observe different places on days that have different weather. I've come to notice that I like down town a lot more when it's gray and rainy and I enjoy the mountains when the sun shines. The beach, I love them both way, but that's the beach. Try some effects pedals and alternate tunings and doodle around with those. Remember that you don't have to be original while trying to overcome a plateau. Go back to the basics, the music that made you love music. There's nothing wrong with doing what you're doing, already. Go ahead and write some songs that you don't plan on anyone hearing. Write them and finish them and move on. It doesn't matter how how uninspired or cheesy they are, you're just trying to keep the train rolling, so to speak. Also, remember that time is the best thing when it comes to writers block. Time and patience. It may take a week or a month, but it will pass. If you really want, put down the guitar and go for a run or get on your bike and ride. Exercise helps some people become inspired. Driving helps me, personally, but with gas prices these days. That's why I'm going to get a motorcycle. Don't let writers block stress you out, friend. Not even the best musicians in the world stay in perpetual motion when it comes to writing great music. Your love for making music will surpass this block and you'll be inspired again.
