    From your list, I'd pick Carole King. Her Tapesty album is brilliant, and I remember all of the heavy airplay that the tracks were getting on FM-radio. Although she's not on your list, I'd have to include Aretha Franklin, as she has written many of her hits. Give a listen to her album, "Spirit in the Dark", with five of her own songs, and with her playing piano on all but one track. Here is one of the songs, "You and Me', an all-time favourite.

Honestly, I don't know all of the songwriters on this list, but of the many that I do, I'm going to have to go with Joni Mitchell. Great writer and performer. Awesome list, by the way.

Definitely...Miss Dolly Parton! If you don;t know, you don't know...but her catalog of songs if INCREDIBLE, as is her ability to perform!

Dolly Parton is my alltime favorite. She has written thousnads of songs, many of which have been gigantic hits for her and other people. (Guess who wrote the number 1 song on iTunes right now? Dolly.) Besides, her voice is simply incredible and she's one of those special people who can be an icon at the same time that another successful album is coming out. She's amazing :) After her my favorites would be Patti Smith, and Janis Joplin.
