As far as distortion/overdrive goes, i personally have been looking into the Electro-Harmonix Metal Muff. Look up videos and demos on it if you'd like. it put out great and heavy sounding distortion. If you know Avenged Sevenfold, Synyster Gates is one of my favorite guitarists and he used the Krank Distorus Maximus, which is nice, A lot more expensive and in my opinion doesnt sound as good. But sorry im not really much into metal though so i cant really help you with other pedals but i'd look into maybe a wah wah pedal and maybe a delay pedal, good thing is those pedals are kind of standard to any type of music. good luck
