  • Okay. So I love to write and sing songs but after I write them they are always bad. So if you could please give me some tips on how to write good songs. I would greatly appreciate it. And who ever helps me write a good song I will choose as best answer and in addition if you want I will send you a link of the lyrics and a recording of me singing it. Thanks in advance. Oh yea if you want me to just say that you do in your answer.

  • Answer:

I'm not a expert at songwriting, but if you want to start off with a good song, get a piece of paper and think about what song you want it to be about. Start making some rhymes and write it down. Yeah, that's pretty much all I know.

When I write, I like to write and see what comes out. There is no exact science to it. Just think about a subject you fell strongly about. Think of similies and metaphors. Just sit down with a pencil and paper and get creative. please critique my lyrics http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ap91EO4JTevMwszC00rspaHty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20110319120759AArCaeo

You can start with a musical riff on your instrument, or a cool chord progression, or a page of lyrics. Choose one of those three then organize it on a piece of paper into some format that can easily be divided into groups of 4 or 2 (preferably 4). This could mean adding a few repeats in the progression or lyrics. If its a riff then you're going to have to figure out which chords fit with the riff and organize it based on those. The other key is to try and keep your melodies within a half octave range most of the time. You can break free of it for effect (like hitting a high note at the high point of the chorus). But if you sing too many notes out of range people won't remember it, its the key to being catchy. When writing lyrics its also good to avoid exact symmetry in the structure as much as possible. Count your syllables in each line and try to vary them, when singing this will add a lot of rhythmic variety which will give the impression that you're very creative with words, even though you might be saying helicopter. Sound and impact of words is far more important than coherence, most people are unable to listen to lyrics for the duration of a sentence, they'll often get distracted by some other instrument within 3 seconds. So focus on the words blending into the music moreso than having them be grammatically correct. A multitrack recorder will be your best friend in this situation. I use a Roland Micro BR and it has helped me enormously with my songwriting.
