I have no idea what "Just Bored's" issue is with Fender. He sounds like some little teenage Ibanez fan boy to be honest. Yeah, Clapton, Hendrix, Gilmore and all of the other rocks gods are just a bunch of suckers that play a Fender because they are not as talented or smart as Mr. Just Bored. What you are talking about is an American made Fender compared to a Mexican made Fender. That's why there is such a price difference. The American model will have better electronics and higher quality wood. What does this mean in terms of actual tone? Not as much as you'd think, and in the hands of a beginner probably no difference. I know many working guitarist that play MIM Fender's. Some of them do upgrade the pickups, bridge and nut at some point but for a beginner this is not necessary. If you are a pretty good player you may notice some difference in feel and tone between a Mexican and American made model. I own both and feel the MIM Fender is very close to the USA model.

There is a difference. Sit down and have someone play both of these guitar and you will see that the American Olympic one has a fatter tone, good for blues, than the other. Not saying the other guitar is garbage but the tone is different and it has more sustain for some reason. Your choice.

Unknown, why Fender charges the price they do is beond me, there guitars are inferior to many lesser known brand names yet they still charge for the Fender badge, I guess people are just stupid and they figured it out, its the PT Barnham approach, Theres a sucker born every second. and what OU812 fails to realize is Hendrix, Clapton, Gilmore and the others play/ed pre CBS and older Fullerton models, not the crap Fender throws out there from Asia, Mexico and there Corona factory. and I play a Godin.

There will be no difference in sound if the only difference is the colour (i.e. what type of "white" it is). I presume you are comparing two different models of Fender Stratocaster which happen also to be different colours. You'd need to say what the two models are for anyone to be able to help you.
