Why Does My Eyes Hurt?

Why do my eyes hurt when I look at a computer screen?

  • They don't hurt before I look at one, but when I check my emails my eyelids start feeling stiff and my eyes burn- sometimes when I'm reading they do that too. I'm only thirteen, so it isn't like I work at a computer all day, I go to school and stare at a chalkboard- which sometimes makes my eyes hurt too. Right now they hurt, and I just have to close them and cover my eyes with my hands. (It actually makes them feel a bit better.) I don't know. I've never had problems with my vision before, but they ran an annual test on us at school and a nurse said that my left eye was weaker? Why is this happening and do I need glasses?

  • Answer:

I agree with the other users that you may need glasses, but it sounds as if you are experiencing dryness in your eyes. The best remedy is eye closing (like you discovered already) or using over the counter preservative free artificial tears. You need to discuss this with you parents, too of course. good luck!
