Dry Eyes contacts problem?

I wake up with crusty eyes, glued shut, after I wear my day and night contacts. Why?

  • So I wear Day and Night contacts, so i can wear them for more than a month, and i shouldn't have to take them out ever or do anything to them in that month, hence the day and night part. I wear glasses and decided to switch to my contacts for a change, every morning i wake up and my eyes are sometimes like "glued" shut, but i always have a whole bunch of crusty stuff around my eyes, it sticks to my lower eyelashes and then they basically attach to the skin beneath my eyes! Why does this happen?! and another problem... after like 2 days, the contacts begin to irritate me! so i have to wash them out with the solution, but then less then a day later they hurt again! They start to get blurry and i have to blink like 100 times to get clear vision again! sometimes I can't keep my eyes open cause of the irritation! HELP! I want to continue wearing my contacts but not if its so much a a hassle

ok I go thru this all the time with patients. just b/c the FDA says it's "safe" to sleep in Night & Day for 30 consecutive days, absolutely does not guarantee or mean that you can do it COMFORTABLY. PLENTY of people have this problem. the sticky "glue" is mucous your eye produces overnight. the blur/pain/irritation is probably from "giant papillary conjunctivitis" or GPC...one of the big problems with sleeping in high-modulus silicone lenses. the "help" is...stop sleeping in them. if that doesn't fix it, you need to get out of silicone. if that still doesn't help, you need to try dailies and maybe even a steroid Rx. obviously most of that you'd need your eye doc's help for (new CL Rx's, etc) but the 2 things in your immediate control w/o a trip to the doc's office are: 1) stop sleeping in them 2) clean them well (like with Clear Care brand H2O2 CL solution)

Maybe it is because your contacts are dirty or your eyes are not used to it. Either way you should see a doctor and ask some advice.
