Which job should I take?

  • In my current job, I am earning £25000. In the new job I will be earning £32000. I have been at my current ob for six months. I really enjoy, my colleagues are now good friends of mine and I understand what I do well. In my new job, I will be in a more 'senior' role, managing the work of three other people and attending daily and weekly meetings with contribution expected every time. The new job will be very challenging and is a big step up from what I am doing just now. At my current job, I am a 'CAD Designer' and with the addition of a new 'Senior CAD Designer' I will be at the bottom again taking orders. In my new job, I will be accountable for the design & draughting department and responsible for any ****-ups, but not at my current job...I am only 21 so luckily, both jobs are fantastic for my age, but I can't help but feel that I might be out of my depth at the new job and may regret it. Also, the monthly 'take-home' pay increase isnt as big as you might expect. sorry for the long explanation. any advice is greatly appreciated.

  • Answer:

As cliche' at it sounds, you have to go with your gut. If you don't feel ready for that step up then stay at your current position until you're ready. If you want the challenge and feel like you're ready to be the person in charge, go for that new job. You're still very well off for a 21-year-old regardless of which job you choose so don't feel like you "should" do anything. Success doesn't always mean making the most money or being the one in charge, success means *enjoying* what you're doing and being good at it.

If you love your job, dont change it! One thing ive learned from talking to a lot of employers and people, is that people dont like to work management, People come to hate you, work just because work and its just, not as pleasent. But, the pay is better, which means a good career move! Its a gamble
