How do I apply for jobs on craigslist?

Craigslist jobs? how would i know if its dangerous?

  • how do you know craiglist jobs are really scams? would you automatically know via email? or when u get to the place and they try to kill u or something? WHAT ARE SOME CLUES THAT WILL PUT UP A RED FLAG?

  • Answer:

Clues: 1) Poorly worded ads/emails. Most scams originate in West Africa or Eastern Europe so their emails normally use improper language and grammar. 2) Any "job" that has you receiving checks/money orders, cashing them and then forwarding the proceeds out of the country are SCAMS. 3) Any "job" that has you receiving packages and forwarding them out of the country are SCAMS. 4) Any "job" where your contact is overseas (even if they claim that is temporary) are SCAMS. 5) A legit job posted on Craigslist would require you to go in for an interview like any other job. 6) Any "job" claiming that you can work at home is almost always a SCAM.

To add to Wayne Z's excellent post - any job asking you to go to a specific site for a credit or background check before you have an interview is a SCAM, these are all scam sites designed to steal your identity and steal your money - any job asking you to go to a site and pay for a Skills Assessment Test before you have an interview is a SCAM -- you'll end up paying up to $50 and realize there is no job - any job asking you to pay them out of pocket for anything (software, training, registration fee) is a SCAM. If a real job charged you any money (like a uniform fee for certain jobs) this cost is taken out of your first paycheck, you don't pay out of pocket. - any job wanting to hire you before they've ever met you in person is a SCAM - any job wanting you to click on a link to watch a "video" is nothing but a virus that will infect your computer For your own safety - real companies are ALWAYS listed with directory assistance, scam companies don't have landline phones - real companies have offices, that you can look at on Google maps to make sure it's a commercial building, not some abandoned house in the middle of nowhere - never give your home address to anyone you have not met - just put your city and state on your resume - set up a separate email just for job searches. That way if you do fall for a scam, your normal email won't be innundated with spam - to be extra safe you can get a cheap pay as you go phone and only use that number for job searches - again if it's a scam the scammer doesn't have your real number. I got a phone for less than $20 and then just use Virgin Mobile top up cards for this
