Is Shelton Credit a SCAM?

ONLINE Job App asking for a credit check. IS THIS A SCAM?

  • THIS IS WHAT THE APP SAID BELOW . IS THIS A SCAM Because you will be working in a professional environment dealing with sensitive information, we require all applicants to obtain a standard credit check. There is no charge for this credit check and it will not negatively influence your credit. The credit check is done through a 3rd party and we will not have access to it without your permission. When you complete the credit check below you will be given a reference number. Keep this handy, you will need this during your interview with the HR Manager as verification of completing the credit check.

  • Answer:

They will cheat you. The credit report will cost you $99 and you will never hear back from the original company that was going to "hire" you. They say they don't have "access to" the credit report. But they do have access to your $99 and you won't get it back. There is plenty of time for them to check your credit after you have interviewed with real people and seen the job site. It only takes 2 minutes at a computer.

I actually have a chapter in my job search book devoted to the issue of credit checks being run on job applicants. With the lousy economy and the growing numbers of job seekers having financial difficulties, more and more companies are running credit checks on potential new hires. And credit checks are pretty common when jobs involve handling cash or valuables, or require security clearance.
