Applying for summer job?

If i am applying for a summer job, should i write that on the application?

  • i need a summer job. i work as a nanny throughout the school year for a teacher's kids..so she has the summers off. on my job applications, when asked why i am leaving my current position, what should i write in that box? is it wise to let businesses know that i am just looking for a summer job? how do i write this..i don't want to hurt my chances of getting hired.

    You are really not leaving your current job, you are just taking time off in hopes of returning in the fall. Jobs are really hard to find in today's economy with 2 million people out of work. Put in applications anywhere you can and know they hire just for the summer. Anywhere else, you may not be able to return to them next summer if you need to since you left after 3 months of being hired.

Just putting "seasonal work" in that area should be fine. Most applications ask if you are looking for full-time, part-time, or seasonal. Be honest, if you lie that'll hurt you chances even more. There are plenty of employers that look for seasonal help and I'm sure you wouldn't mind having a job to come back to every summer. Check out www.coolworks.com, they have a lot of summer seasonal jobs advertised there. Maybe you'll find one in your area, if not most offer free room and board if you come to work for them. If you don't want to do that, look for customer service and hospitality jobs in your area, those are the ones that are most likely to need summer seasonal help.
