Can you put salary requirements and salary history on a cover letter?

If a company ask that I email cover letter and resume with salary requirements, do I?

  • It is not a popular job title, so I'm having trouble finding a good salary range for it. But I feel like including salary requirements would only hurt me in the long run...I've read that I should only start talking about salary once I have an offer or when they are seriously considering offering me a job. How do I deal with this so early on in the process? Should I respectfully decline giving my requirements, or should I include them at the risk of being too high or low? If I should decline, what is a respectful way of doing so?

  • Answer:

Under salary requirements, put "Negotiable". Last year I spent some time helping my boss review resumes (professors and other administrative professionals) and this is what they had in the "salary requirement" section.

I think you should tell them that you would rather discuss salary range if you are qualified and was given an offer. Maybe you can say that you hope they don't hire solely base on the applicant's salary requirement. be confident with your skills
