Is checking the status of a job application worth it?

First job...What to say when checking in on a job application?

  • I submitted an application to McDonald's about 2 months ago, this was before I turned 16. I hadn't checked up on it since then, and now I really need a job. I would submit another application but you can't do that because they keep your old one for 6 months. And I'm just wondering what I should say since it's been so long since I sent it. Do I try and set up an interview or what? I REALLY need a job.

  • Answer:

The managers probably picky D: I hate those types of managers, they take forever to hire people. I'm sorry. I've been advised to call saying " Hi , good afternoon/morning/evening! may I speak to your manager?-phone is passed to manager-- Hi!, my name is ___________ , and I was calling to check on the status of my application? " He would probably go and check or answer you with " I'm currently not looking to hire anybody right now but maybe in sept (or something) I'll have your application by then." It seems pointless, but you're letting him know how much you care about getting this job , and your name importantly. I've had managers tell me "I've been talking about you all week to my co-workers and the other managers!" or " Oh! you're Valeria! the one that ______ told me about" . It's important to make an impression on them , specially a good one. Don't let the other people trying to get hired overshadow your attempts. Even if its a small job, it always deserves great attention when your trying to get hired.
