How long is insurance effective after you leave a job?

Making up a health reason (since no insurance offered) to leave your job.?

• I want to leave on a good note, from my current job and I was thinking of using the fact that I am not offered insurance as a reason for leaving. But... I wanted to do it in a way that would invoke sympathy and insure that I can get really good reviews / references. I was thinking of keeping it simple, like I went to the doctor the other day and unfortunately I wont be able to afford working hear while receiving the medical attention I need. I enjoy working here but I am going to have to find a new job with insurance. I am not saying im dying, but I am not saying im 100% fine either... This will allow them to be sympathetic to my situation and offer rave reviews to my next employer. Am I being silly or could this potentially be a good idea?

  You're a very sad person if you have to lie to get sympathy. That doesn't insure good references, especially if you don't take the little secret to the grave with you. All you have to say is the new job offered better benefits. Period. I used to work for a company that suddenly became self-insured. That means we went from a good medical insurance to the company paying our medical expenses directly, but it was administered by an outside company. That became such a hassle because 100% of the medical bill had to be paid out of our pockets and it would take months before we were reimbursed. Alot of doctors offices didn't understand this system, as they were so used to dealing with insurance companies. I started looking for another job after a year of this. When I quit, I told them I had a better offer. Plain and simple. You don't have to tell everybody everything, but it's 100% truth.
