Help writing a cover letter?

• My dad said i need to go around some shops giving in my CV and to include a letter to go with it. so far i have got Dear Sir/Madam I am writing to apply for a job at your company, I have a lot to offer to it as I am very hard working and self motivated person. I have just finished school and will be attending College, so a job would be very good to gain some experience from and earn some extra money. I already have some experience in a working environment as I have done a week of work experience so I am already aware of what is expected of me, I am a very sensible person and always try my best. If a job is not possible then I would possibly like to do some work experience to gain some more experience in a working environment and to help my CV grow as this would help towards future job prospects and would look very good on a university application. I am available for an interview throughout the summer holidays but if there are no possible vacancies at the moment then please keep my details on file. I hope to be hearing from you soon.
