What is my job title? Am I doing more then agreed too?
-
I'm going to try and make this as simple as possible, I graduated high school so I have my diploma. I went to Hunter business school and graduated with office technology diploma. Those courses I took were associated with accounting and computer programs and so fourth. I got my first job which is where I am now. I do not know what my title would be considered, accounts payable? billing manager? My boss claims I'm in charge of all billing aspects .I feel i should be making a lot more then I do. I really work hard. I work at a wine and liquor distributor, all of NY and NJ , we also deal with other importers out of country. My job consist of billing all orders that come to our company, I am sort of in charge of about 15 salesmen. I have to make sure I am there to all there needs as in collection reports, status of payments on stores and what ever else they need. I also keep track of all inventory and have to notify all salesmen at all times. As I am doing this of course there are phone calls off the hook. After all billing is finished and up to date I have to make sure all orders are correct and processed and have signed invoices after delivery. Any problems with orders is also my job, for example no breakage or refusals and if so its another process and recording of detailed work on how and why which in the end need approvals for credits and so fourth. There is also other companies I deal with that work though us, which I also have to keep track of. There are minor other reports and detailed work I do but this is the jist. What would this be considered? and how much does a person of this occupation deserve? I am asking because I want to make a change, I feel I'm not making enough and working really hard. thanks

Answer:
Continue to work hard and don't complain. This is your first job. Your goals should be to learn as much as possible and to make it so when you find a job you want they can call your boss and your boss will give you a glowing recommendation. There is a tight labor market and your boss would have no trouble replacing you. If it's a crap job your boss is probably used to people leaving. Make sure you are the one he is sorry to see go.
