How do I go about becoming an apprentice brewer?

Looking for information and advice on how to become a blacksmith.?

  • Hi all. My names Gary and I live in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, England, and Im interested in becoming a blacksmith. I have seen a couple of courses, and aswell as that, I have considered the idea of becoming a blacksmiths apprentice. I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice or information regarding becoming a smith? Also, if theres anyone from the UK that is or has trained to become a smith from scratch, how did you go about it? What requirements did you have to meet? And how did you go about achieving the requirements? Smithing is something that is very appealing to me, as whenever I have worked with metal, i have thoroughly enjoyed it. If anyone could help me on my way with any information or advice, i would be very grateful. I look forward to hearing from you all. Thanks in advance.

  • Answer:

You should be able to get the book "Backyard Blacksmith". It has a lot of good information and a few projects. I didn't apprentice, just picked up the hammer and started wasting metal. I did ruin a lot but had fun doing it. It can be noisy work, and you'll have to take that into consideration as well as how your neighbors will react to it. Here in the States we have the Artist Blacksmiths Association and local forge councils you may and probably do have something similar. Good luck.
