What are some great ways to improve my resume?

  • Hey I was just wondering if someone could check my terrible resume and tell me ways to improve on it. I'm a student and I never really had to write a resume before. So if you would kindly check my resume, that would be awesome of you :D!

    Stick to one style of writing. Within your objective you start of with 'Highly motivated.... then you go on to write 'I aspire....' Write about yourself in the 'first person' it seems more personal that way. Its probably best to highlight what you can offer an employer. Even the basics like you are a good time keeper, you are trust worthy, you can be relied upon, you are a fast learner etc Structure your resume logically, something like this; Personal Details (contact info etc) Any relevant skills Qualifications Education/training Employment/work experience history Personal interests Sick to the point. Its not necessary to pad your resume out with lots of text. Remember the employer will be looking at many resumes and will get bored reading long ones so try and grab their attention without over doing it. Its also a good idea to write a short cover letter explaining why you would like to work for them. Good luck

Objective: Terrible, sorry. You should only put in why you are a good candidate - that is, what you can offfer the employer, not what you expect to gain (learn as much as possible) or your aspirations (grow in the process). Better just to put a 'generic' objective, like, "an entry-level position in the retail industry" or "A full-time position in the hospitality field" - otherwise, just leave the objective off altogether. Add an Education section to show your academic level of acchievement. If you have any certificates or licenses, add them also. Experience: Be specific - add more detail. In what way did you "look after children?" Did you interact with them, resolve confilcts, keep order, coordinate activites, etc...
