Unemployment Benefits | Part time Jobs with Significantly cut Hours.?

  • Hi, I have a question. I have two Part-time Jobs. One of my employers has significantly cut my hours due to unfairness. The reason I feel they have done this is because at one point I had asked for a raise. I am an Assistant Manager and I am being paid $7.50, when minimum wage is $7.25. Well my employers informed me that they were not able to pay out anymore then what they were, due to the economy. But right after, they decided to hire two new employees, one of the new employees is receiving more hours then I am. I feel discriminated against since this has occurred. I am looking for advice on what i should do. Am I Eligible for UI compensation for my lost hours? Even though I have another Part-Time Job?

    Check your contract of employment for this company see if there is a minimum or max that they must offer you in order to forfill their side of the contract. Seek advice at your employment centre they may be able to give you more advice about your employment rights.

Probably not. What you're making now is what I'm now making on unemployment although I was making about twice that much before being laid off. It never hurts to apply for unemployment. You'll either be turned down or accepted. But never quit a job unless you have a better job to replace it. Unemployment rarely considers quitting a job as a reason to receive unemployment and in the few cases they do, you may have to have strong evidence of harassment on the job or something in that vein. If you can afford it, education or training is the best route to go and even if you can't ask your local employment sources where you can get free training or grants even loans for education/training that can advance your skill level and level of pay.

Since you have two jobs it's unlikely. If you had just the one then you could probably get benefits.
