Where do I apply to get a job testing video games?

What if I'm only good at video games?

  • Hi, I'm a 19 year old first year college student without a decided major. I've put a ton of thought in what major I want. But I just can't think of a job that I would love doing for the rest of my life. I also don't have any talents besides playing video games. I have been playing video games ever since I was about 5 years old from Contra and Mario on the SNES to Modern Warfare 3 and World of Warcraft. And it always seems that no matter what game I am playing, I just completely dominate on it. My dream job would be to work for Machinima or any other game company playing and testing games. But I have nooooo idea how I could get into that Industry but its my dream. I live in a small town in Missouri full of small minded people and I want out. I will take any help I can get, Thanks.

  • Answer:

Since there might be more behind being a game tester than simply sitting down and playing it, like maybe needing to understand the workings of it and being able to help find and fix problems, etc... you might consider a major in game design in general, since it would help you gain the background and understanding of how the industry works. If you like games that much, you may end up finding it just as fun to create them as it is to play.
