What do I need to study in uni for my dream job?

Should I go for this other job dilemma?

  • I am currently working at an opticians and have been doing for for 3 months. I have employed temporarily to cover a member of staff who is away on maternity leave and the other staff holiday periods. Which is good as I am getting many hours over the summer which I need. I have just about grasped how to do my job however I am limited on the tasks I can carry out. There is possibility I can remain at this place possibly as a Saturday job which I desire, as I study at Uni. However this is all uncertain at the moment due to when the lady on maternity leave wants to come back. So as I am a temp I am being treated as a temp - with limited duties. I do really love this place that I work at and really really want to stay permanent but hate the uncertainty. Now, today I saw a job advert at another opticians for a Saturday job. I am so very tempted to apply for this job, but do not know if I should go for it. The only thing is I doubt they will give me many hours over the summer as they just want Saturdays however t there would be the job security as job through Uni. What should I do? I really do not want to be ruthless and leave my current job as I love it but what if I end up with no job in the end and regret that I didn't got for this other job.

Ask your boss firstly about what your current job is contingent on- is it just on an unpredictable woman, or does your boss like you and need you around enough to keep you regardless of the pregnant woman's outcome? Don't worry about being ruthless- that should not be a consideration. It's the job market- if your employer had to let you go, they wouldn't think twice about it. I'd say apply for the new job- it's good to have security!
