Retail job interview questions.

What type of questions does a person ask during a job interview at a retail store?

  • I have never had a job before, aside from baby sitting for relatives. I have an interview in the morning at a popular retail store. I applied for the cashier position. I am very nervous. I would like very much to get the job and want to prepare myself for my first interview, so I would like to know what types of questions they will ask me during my interview. Also, do you have any tips or advice as to how I could make a positive lasting impression on my interviewer so that I can have just as good a chance of being chosen for the job as someone else who may be applying for the job that has more experience than me? How can I make myself memorable.

  • Answer:

Why do you want to work here? Give an example of a time you gave or recieved excellent customer service? Name a time you were in a conflict and how you solved it? What are you strengths and weaknesses/what can you offer to our store? How do you feel about the saying "The customer is always right"? Answer questions with at least two parts, and sometimes three. 1. The answer 2. An explanation 3. An example. For example, if they ask a place that you gave or recieved excellent customer service, don't just say I had excellent customer service at a book store cause they helped me there. Say something like: While I was visiting a book store, I had some trouble finding what I wanted. The man who helped me not only took me to the shelves, but also called other stores and looked online for the book that I needed. This was important to me because he showed exceptional skill and seemed happy to help me. Still keep it relatively short, a few sentences. Make eye contact, and smile! Say thank you when you leave, and if they offer you their hand give them a handshake. Be honest but suck up a little :) Goodluck!

First of, if it's a store that sells clothing, wear the clothing they sell if it isn't too informal. Dress appropriately, but not too formel. Avoid wearing clothes with big name logos on the top (unless maybe it has the store's name on it). When I got interviewed for my retail job they asked me questions like, Why are you interested in this position. What other activities have you been involved in? What are your strengths and weakness? What are some words to describe your personality/How would your friend describe be you? They might ask you when you would be available to work. This is very important because it typically decides when you'll be working. Some tips would be make sure you shake the person's hand once you meet them. Make lots of eye contact, but not so much it freaks them out. DO NOT chew gum, some people are really put of by that. Also try to smile a lot, some people get very annoyed when people do not smile, and when you are applying for a job like working at a retail store, they try to hire happy, pleasant people, so try to be happy. Good luck, and try not to be too nervous! If you don't know an answer to the question, remember you can always ask for them to repeat it, or come back to it if your unsure.
